So I went off hunting again for a permanent tab solution. But wait! Lifehacker, many moons ago, highlighted an extension called PermaTabs, an extension that preserves selected tabs through sessions and prevents accidental closing.

Sadly, the developer of that extension has long since forgotten it. I was annoyed, but after a bit more searching, I found another extension called PermaTabs Mod. It's the same as the original extension, however it's updated and modified to work with Firefox 3.5. Essentially, this add-on allows you to make a tab permanent—that is to say, it cannot be closed by accident, actions such as "Close other tabs" in the Tab context menu do no affect it, and better yet, the tabs stay where they are in the order they are even if you close/shutdown Firefox! * Permatabs are not set in stone as far as location goes. You can reorder Permatabs by dragging them around. (Be warned, you can also pop-out Permatabs, but once you do, you must pop them back in or add them again manually.)

* Using this setup, I don't need to use toaster popups from extensions like Gmail Notifier or any third party app. All I have to do is glance to the top right to see if there's any new messages.

Observers in western Canada and the USA will have the best views with moonset occurring sometime after mid-eclipse. To catch the entire event, one must be in Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, or East Asia.

Penumbral Lunar Eclipse of July 07

July's penumbral eclipse is only of academic interest since the magnitude is just 0.156. Although the Moon will be above the horizon from most of Canada (Figure 4), the eclipse is so minor as to be completely invisible to the naked eye.

To make up for the anemic lunar eclipse earlier in the month, a major total eclipse of the Sun occurs two weeks later. The path of the Moon's umbral shadow extends across India, China, a handful of Japanese islands and the South Pacific Ocean (Espenak and Anderson, 2008). A partial eclipse is seen within the much broader path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which includes most of eastern Asia, Indonesia, and the Pacific Ocean (Figure 5).

As the Moon's shadow reaches the coast, China's largest city Shanghai (pop. ~19 million) experiences totality lasting 5 minutes at 01:39 UT. Around 70 km to the south, the central line duration falls just 5 seconds short of the 6-minute mark. Across the East China Sea, the umbra sweeps over Japan's Ryukyu Islands and Iwo Jima.

Greatest eclipse occurs in the South Pacific at 02:35:19 UT. At this instant, the axis of the Moon's shadow passes closest to Earth's center. The maximum duration of totality is 6_minutes 39_seconds, the Sun's altitude is 86°, and the path width is 258_km. The remainder of the path makes no major landfall; it arcs southeast through the Pacific hitting just a handful of small atolls in the Marshall Islands and Kiribati (Gilbert Islands).

Solar Eclipse Figures

For each solar eclipse, an orthographic projection map of Earth shows the path of penumbral (partial) and umbral (total) or antumbral (annular) eclipse. North is to the top in all cases and the daylight terminator is plotted for the instant of greatest eclipse. An asterisk (*) indicates the sub-solar point^[4] on Earth.

The limits of the Moon's penumbral shadow delineate the region of visibility of the partial solar eclipse. This irregular or saddle shaped region often covers more than half of the daylight hemisphere of Earth and consists of several distinct zones or limits. At the northern and/or southern boundaries lie the limits of the penumbra's path. Partial eclipses have only one of these limits, as do central eclipses when the Moon's shadow axis falls no closer than about 0.45 radii from Earth's centre. Great loops at the western and eastern extremes of the penumbra's path identify the areas where the eclipse begins/ends at sunrise and sunset, respectively. If the penumbra has both a northern and southern limit, the rising and setting curves form two separate, closed loops. Otherwise, the curves are connected in a distorted figure eight. Bisecting the 'eclipse begins/ends at sunrise and sunset' loops is the curve of maximum eclipse at sunrise (western loop) and sunset (eastern loop). The points P1 and P4 mark the coordinates where the penumbral shadow first contacts (partial eclipse begins) and last contacts (partial eclipse ends) Earth's surface. If the penumbral path has both a northern and southern limit, then points P2 and P3 are also plotted. These correspond to the coordinates where the penumbral shadow cone is internally tangent to Earth's disk.

In the upper left and right corners are the geocentric coordinates of the Sun and the Moon, respectively, at the instant of greatest eclipse. They are:

Windows 7 has been released to manufacturing and is obviously the operating system that Microsoft and its partners will be pushing for the next two-plus years. If you’re one of those business users who is in the midst of deploying Vista, what should you do?

But in May, around the time Microsoft delivered the near-final Release Candidate (RC) test build of Windows 7, Windows execs stopped saying much at all about Vista. In fact, it was like pulling teeth to get them to talk about Vista Service Pack (SP) 2, in terms of discussing features, fixes and/or availability. At the company’s recent Worldwide Partner Conference, the message was clear: As of May, any marketing campaigns that had been using the word “Vista” should be switched to refer to “Windows.”

Mike Angiulo, General Manager of Microsoft’s Planning and PC Ecosystem team, said Microsoft is not casting off its Vista users.

“We are not abandoning our existing Vista customers,” Angiulo said. “A three-year cycle is the right amount of time” for the delivery of a new client operating system release to users, and that’s just about how long it will be by the time it makes Windows 7 generally available, he said.

“A year ago, 87 percent of our commercial customers were on XP. Many are looking to skip a generation and go straight to Vista, Windows 7″ said Jim Ginger, Global Lead of Dell’s End User Services Computing Practice. (Sorry: my mistake on that one… MJF)

But like Microsoft, Dell is insisting that the Windows 7 push won’t mean that Vista users get left behind.

More than four weeks I was on this from Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Montana, and I saw a beautiful landscape of America to offer.

Pastures were storing mountains, valleys and epic world-class, canyons, waterfalls, fantastic, exuberant rivers, and much more. For me to come visit and learn about some of the most interesting countries, through the beautiful road safety, the same as around 2009.

It's taken thousands of photos and select a few test on the road you travel on the image problem. Every day, I think I have found for you from the stump, and every day someone in response to a half hour. But I think today may be a little harder. Why? I'm feeling. Moreover, as I said, this feeling is wrong all the time.

While we were rafting yesterday, our raftguide was telling us about the Treetops Canopy Tour that Rivermen offers. Melissa and Chris (the couple from Tampa) were going to be doing it in the morning and it sounded like a lot of fun. So, we figured since we were camping the second night anyways, we might as well stay for a few extra hours to do the Treetops trip.

We were strapped into a harness and headed into the forest for a brief instructional class on how to zipline through the trees. We had a blast on this trip! It's slightly terrifying to be standing on these wooden platforms about 75 feet up a tree but the cable system they have set up actually made you feel really safe. We zipped through a bunch of trees reaching around 35 mph; we walked along a couple rope bridges; and eventually repelled about 40 ft. down a tree to end the trip. We even did one zip were you got a running head start off this huge rock and then just jumped. The guides we were with (Charlie & Kelly) were awesome – super knowledgeable about everything and they made the trip really fun!

Soooo we originally started driving down streets looking for hotels but found that to be ridiculous because of the traffic and people. We pulled into the parking lot in front of the Capital Building and started looking up hotels on Joey’s phone and on the car GPS. We ended up calling about 25 different hotels –EVERYTHING was booked and anything right within DC was at least $250 per night and we were planning on staying 2 nights. At this point we were hungry, tired, and annoyed. I decided that a trip to DC is not really the best idea when you’re on a road trip and nothing is planned – DC must be planned and organized (or you at least need to be familiar with the city and what it’s like) in order to avoid massive headaches.

His boss, Attorney General John Ashcroft, was not aware until March 2004 of the exact nature of the intelligence operations beyond wiretapping that he had been approving for the previous two and a half years, the report says.

The inspectors general interviewed more than 200 people inside and outside the government, but five former Bush administration officials refused to be questioned. They were Ashcroft, Yoo, former CIA Director George Tenet, former White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card and David Addington, an aide to former Vice President Dick Cheney.

The only piece of the intelligence-gathering operation acknowledged by the Bush White House was the wiretapping-without-warrants effort. The administration admitted in 2005 that it had allowed the National Security Agency to intercept international communications that passed through U.S. cables without seeking court orders.

Bush brought the warrantless wiretapping program under the authority of a secret court in 2006, and Congress authorized most of the intercepts in a 2008 electronic surveillance law. The fate of the remaining and still classified aspects of the wider surveillance program is not clear from the report.

The IG report said that President Bush signed off on both the warrantless wiretapping and other top-secret operations shortly after Sept. 11 in a single presidential authorization. All the programs were periodically reauthorized, but except for the acknowledged wiretapping, they "remain highly classified."

Former Bush Attorney General Alberto Gonzales made a terse reference to other classified programs in an August 2007 letter to Congress. But Harman said that when she had asked Gonzales two years earlier if the government was conducting any other undisclosed intelligence activities, he denied it.

Google was in 2001 plans for Google Web search company to search for content companies. Google is less than the original direction of the search for all types of content, including all texts that were never printed.

This may sound like madness, as we know, but thanks to Google Catalog experiment, Google could develop technology that can scan a large number of books in a very short time.
